Nahyan bin Mubarak launches ‘iOS App Development Challenge’ for Emirati students

Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence and Chairman of Sandooq Al Watan, launched the iOS App Development Challenge, in cooperation with the Ministry of Education, the Emirates Schools Establishment (ESE) and the Department of Education and Knowledge in Abu Dhabi.

The event was attended by officials from the Ministry of Education and the Department of Education and Knowledge in Abu Dhabi, technology specialists and education specialists from Apple, as well as business leaders, 100 teachers from the private education sector, officials from GEMS schools, and representatives of programming firms.

Yasser Al Gergawi, Director-General of Sandooq Al Watan, said that the launch of the challenge, which was organised by Sandooq Al Watan under the patronage of Sheikh Nahyan, aims to target school students, adding that a session will be held for teachers to brief them about the challenge and its objectives, as well as its implementation and the application process for students.

The session will also offer free advanced training for teachers participating in the initiative, which will be given by experts and specialists from Apple Professional Learning.

The initiative will organise training workshops and provide online educational materials to school students, enabling them to compete in designing e-applications for Apple’s iOS operating system, he further added, noting that the initiative, which is launched by Sandooq Al Watan in cooperation with the Ministry of Education, ESE, and the Department of Education and Knowledge in Abu Dhabi, focusses on building the skills of students and teaching them iOS programming basics.

The initiative will target some 10,000 school students from around the country, as well as university students.
